- Background
The Information Management Centre (IMC) is a centralized technical body modeled after FAO SWALIM, established to improve access to accurate, reliable, and timely information on land, water, and natural resources. IMC serves as a key information hub to support evidence-based decision-making among government entities, humanitarian actors, and development partners.
- Purpose of the Position
The Information Management Officer is responsible for establishing, managing, and supporting systems that facilitate the collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination of information related to land and water resources. The officer will also support visual communication products, including infographics, info sheets, and posters, to ensure stakeholders receive clear, user-friendly insights.
- Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of IM systems within IMC, ensuring data quality and accessibility.
- Design and manage relational databases, dashboards, and data visualization platforms.
- Develop and apply data collection tools and workflows for consistent, high-quality data.
- Collect, clean, and analyze data on land cover, water points, soil degradation, and hydrological trends.
- Support the development and implementation of early warning products (e.g., drought/flood alerts).
- Design and produce infographics, information sheets, and awareness posters summarizing key datasets, project outcomes, or hazard warnings.
- Collaborate with GIS officers and communication staff to convert technical data into user-friendly graphics.
- Maintain standardized data-sharing protocols and metadata documentation.
- Support capacity-building activities and train government staff on data tools and visual communication practices.
- Archive and manage IMC’s knowledge products and digital assets.
- Support the production of monthly bulletins, situation reports, and thematic summaries.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the IMC Director.
Experiences and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or related fields. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- At least 5 years of experience in data management, analysis, and information system design.
- Strong design skills with tools like Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, PowerPoint, or similar.
- Proficient in KoboToolbox, ODK, Power BI, Excel, and basic GIS tools (ArcGIS/QGIS) is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in developing visual communication products (infographics, dashboards, posters).
- Experience working with government institutions or humanitarian/development agencies is desirable.
- Fluency in English and Somali (written and spoken).
- Ability to explain complex data to non-technical audiences using visuals.
- Key Deliverables
- Functional data dashboard or platform for IMC stakeholders.
- At least 4 high-quality infographics, 2 information sheets, and 2 awareness posters produced and distributed.
- Cleaned, validated datasets with documented metadata.
- Monthly situation reports and technical briefs integrating visual elements.
- Completed training sessions and user guides on information and visual product development.
- Digital archive updated with all data, graphics, and reporting materials.
